Mahi’ai Creative was founded in 2003, when we returned to the Big Island of Hawaii to help manage our family’s homestead, Keolamauloa
. We had completed our education at the San Francisco Art Institute, and we were about to have our daughter, Kia’i. Our vision was to create a sustainable lifestyle that balanced both work and play, and to raise our daughter surrounded by the vibrancy of nature.
At Mahi’ai Creative Studio, located on our homestead on the Hamakua Coast, we design and create artisan products, provide documentary media services to a variety of clients, and produce fine art for exhibition and by commission. As a company and as a family, we are committed to the preservation of our cultural roots, to caring for our environment through sustainable practices, and to expressing gratitude and aloha. We strive to reflect this commitment in all that we do. Mahalo for visiting our website, and please take a moment to check out our online shop!
We produce three brands through our studio that reflect a contemporary design aesthetic and our commitment to resourcefulness and sustainability. Manukai Handboards
are fresh, colorful bodysurfing handboards made of old and broken surfboards, with straps made from used wetsuits. Kalakoa Designs
is a line of bold resin jewelry that utilizes the leftover resin from our surfcraft and art activities. Pixsea Handmade
offers the handmade accessories and resin jewelry designed and crafted by our 11-year-old daughter Kia’i. Learn more about these brands on their websites, or purchase them here in our Studio Shop
