KAHILU THEATER - ART EXHIBIT & DOCUMENTARY SCREENING!

Sally Lundburg and Keith Tallett exhibited their artwork at the Kahilu Theater galleries from Feb. 18-March 15. There was a reception on March 3, along with a free community screening of One Winter Story. The event was presented through the generous support of the Richard Smart Fund, Performing Arts Presenters of Hawaii, Western States Arts Federation, and the Fairmont Orchid. Keith Tallett is a second generation surfboard shaper and a Hawaiian tattoo practitioner. The process of making art for him becomes a way of creating dialogue between this cultural knowledge and his investigations as a contemporary artist. The resulting artwork has an unexpected formal and abstract structure, most often taking shape in paintings, drawings, photography and sculpture. Sally Lundburg calls her work a process of recollection… gathering together again what has been scattered. Her work bridges photo-collage techniques with documentary sensibilities, becoming subjective representations of history and memory. Both artists will be showing past and recent work. One Winter Story is an unprecedented glimpse into the male-dominated world of big-wave surfing from an unusual and seldom seen perspective - a woman’s. The hour long film has received numerous awards both nationally and internationally, including the Grand Prize Award for Best Film at the International Surf Film Festival du St. Jean de Luz, France, and the Bronze Shell Special Jury Prize at the Santander International Sports Film Festival. Shot in Super 8 and 16mm film, One Winter Story was produced and directed by Sally Lundburg & Elizabeth Pepin.
