CLOSER TO HOME  AT EAST HAWAII CULTURAL CENTER - Big Island, Hawaii

Big Island artist Sally Lundburg exhibited her mixed media artwork in a show titled Closer to Home from August 7 - September 5, 2009 at the East Hawaii Cultural Center Makai Gallery. An opening show reception was held on Friday, August 7, 2009, from 5:30-7:30pm.

Frequently mining garage sales and dumpsters to gather materials for her work, Sally collects unwanted images in a process she calls recollection - gathering together again what has been scattered. Her work bridges photo-collage techniques with documentary sensibilities, and takes form in mixed media paintings and short films, becoming inventive representations of history and memory. In the show at EHCC, Closer to Home,  Sally combines her own photographs with images and text culled from photo albums, journals, books, and personal collections of her immediate and extended families. The finished pieces employ a variety of materials including raw wood, rescued paper, paint, epoxy resin, and images printed on silk and orthographic film.
